In Memory of Hueron Wilks

Hueron Wilks was a dedicated husband, father, and organizer. He was a social justice warrior, a force to be reckoned with, and a pain in the sides of elected officials and bank CEO's throughout Chicago and Illinois. Hueron Wilks served his community with selflessness and love and put the needs of others before himself. Rain, sleet, or snow, Hueron spent most of his time in the communities, speaking with residents about the troubles their neighborhoods faced. He empowered those who had become lost. He had motivated those who became complacent. He stood by his brothers and sisters, ready to fight with everything he had. Through wins and losses, the smile on his face never faltered and his spirit never shaken. He touched countless lives and will be deeply missed.

Hueron was my coworker at Action Now. We enjoyed many laughs and discussions. He knew how much I liked Chuck Taylor gym shoes and he brought me a brand new pair to work one day. I was frantic, to say the least. I still have them after all of these years and I will always keep them. I will never forget that. He holds a special place in my heart. R.I.P. Hueron. 😔

Hr taught me EVERYTHING regarding Community Activist and Organizing. Oftentimes, he worked my nerves but you couldn’t ask for and receive a better LEADER, friend or confidant.
When he wanted me to bring guests, speak to the media or at a press conference , I would say “who am I?” and he would say “Mrs. Bracey, Geraldine’s daughter, the Mississippi Queen!” and of course I would say yes…
He believed in me when I doubted myself….
We always prayed before any Actions….
He loved his family, church, friends and Action Now Organization.
He always gave that smile away.
I loved him as a friend and Organizer….
Sleep on, take your rest until the day of resurrection.

RIP to Heuron. I did not know that he had passed away and I know he is in heaven and Action Now has another angel watching over them.
