  • On March 8th, 2009 The Sweet Home Chicago Coalition held a press conference to announce an ordinance that will use TIF (Tax Increment Financing) funds to combat the foreclosure crisis in Chicago. Even though there is a TIF surplus of 1.3 billion, only 4% has gone towards affordable housing. The ordinance would set aside 20% of TIF funds for affordable housing. There are 8 Alderman who came out in support of the ordinance.

"Why should they abandon these buildings and then we're stuck with that building there - worried about vandalism, crime and everything else? We don't want that in our neighborhood, and we're tired of that," said Action Now President Michelle Young.
